SLAM (Sunrise Learning About Movements) is a study group program designed for those interested in Sunrise, social movements, and stimulating change (aka you!!). These weekly meetings are a way to come together as a hub, bring everyone up to speed, and catapult us on to a really productive fall semester filled with deliberate, meaningful action. SLAM hopes to provide a little bit of structure and nerdy fun to your summer! Join us every Tuesday at 8pm EDT through the end of the summer. Reach out to Olivia (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information on how to join these meetings.
Organizational: Structures of Action
The organizational working group meets regularly on Wednesdays at 7pm EDT to discuss the logistics of our hub for this upcoming semester and the future. We are currently working on contingency plans for the semester as well as revitalizing our “constitution,” which includes our hub’s goals, values, and methods. Ev Berger-Wolf and Edyth Moldow are the point people for this group.
Website Design and Development
The Website Design and Development working group has made exciting updates to the website- including a google calendar that project leaders can add events to! Check it out here to see our regularly scheduled meetings and updated events. This summer we will be working to make the website more accessible by changing the format of our pages, making it easier to see past projects and current projects that we continue to work on.
Social Media and Outreach
Social Media is remaining active throughout the summer advertising initiatives and events put on by our working groups and solidarity partners, compiling and reposting educational guides highlighting the intersectional nature of climate justice, and giving our members access to anti-racist materials. We’re continuing with Climeme Monday, and adding Testimonial Tuesday which is aimed at centering the voices of Black individuals and other people of color on campus, so please feel free to dm us any relevant posts or memes. We hope to use our Facebook and Instagram platforms to continue to engage with the community, informing our followers of Sunrise Middlebury’s actions as well as those of like minded organizations. To get involved with any aspect of media or communications, contact Addie (email@example.com)!
Movement for Black Lives Solidarity Committee
The Movement for Black Lives Solidarity Committee is working on a plan to center racial justice in the work of Sunrise Middlebury. We are planning a full hub meeting for the end of the summer to discuss the Movement for Black Lives and steps forward for the upcoming school year. In the meantime, we are working to support the Middlebury Cops Off Campus initiative; building relationships with racial justice organizations on campus and in VT; collaborating with the social media team to share testimonies of students of color and amplify resources for the M4BL; and creating a racial justice reading guide for new members. Our goal is to integrate racial justice into every hub meeting and every aspect of our organization.
